Affiliate disclosure: how Prospect Network is paid

The short version
Some links on this site are paid. When you follow one of them to a vendor and take out a subscription, Prospect Network is paid a commission by the advertising network that manages the arrangement. You pay the vendor's ordinary price — the commission comes out of the vendor's marketing budget, not out of your pocket, and using the link costs you nothing extra.
Which links are paid, and how to tell
At the time of writing, exactly one product on this site is covered by a commercial arrangement: Norton AntiVirus Plus. Links to that vendor appear on the home page and on the page about the product, and nowhere else. Every one of them carries a line of plain text immediately next to it saying that it is a paid link, so you never need to hover over an address to work out what you are clicking.
In technical terms, those links are marked with rel="sponsored nofollow", which is the standard way of telling search engines that a link is advertising. They point directly at the advertising network's tracking address and open in a new tab. There is no redirect hosted on this domain, no link cloaking, and no script on this site that changes where a link goes after the page loads.
Links to Australian government bodies — the ACCC, the OAIC, the Australian Cyber Security Centre, Scamwatch and the eSafety Commissioner — are not paid, have never been paid, and nobody has asked us to include them. Links between pages of this site are not paid either, for obvious reasons.
What the money influences, and what it does not
The commercial arrangement determines one thing: which product gets a page of its own on this site. We are transparent that this is a commercial decision rather than an editorial one, because pretending otherwise is the thing that makes affiliate publishing untrustworthy.
What it does not do:
- It does not determine what the product page says. That page deliberately sets out the limits of what we know, declines to reproduce feature lists and prices we cannot verify, and sends readers to the vendor for anything authoritative.
- It does not affect the guides. No guide on this site names a product, recommends one, or ranks anything. Remove every paid link from Prospect Network and the guides are unchanged.
- It does not produce rankings or scores. There are none on this site, paid or otherwise. We run no tests and publish no numbers we cannot stand behind.
- It does not buy a positive opinion. No vendor has approved, reviewed or supplied any text here, and none has editorial input of any kind.
- It does not give us anything about you. We receive aggregate commission reporting from the network. We are not told who subscribed, and we cannot see your account, your name or your payment details.
What does determine our coverage
Which topics get written about is decided by what readers in Australia actually need to work out before they spend money in this category: what the software does, what the built-in tools already cover, how subscriptions renew, what the law provides, and how the fake-alert pattern works. The relationship in plain terms
GERONTA SPOL s.r.o. publishes this site and participates in an affiliate programme through an advertising network. The network places the tracking link; the vendor sells the product; we publish. Your contract, when you subscribe, is with the vendor and not with us. We cannot sell you a licence, cancel one, access your account, or intervene in a support matter. If this changes
If the arrangement ends, we will remove the links and say so on the product page rather than leaving them in place. If another arrangement is added, this page is updated before the first link is published, and the new product is disclosed here by name. The date at the top of this page changes whenever any of that happens.
